Our mission statement is based on Matthew 25: 35-37,40: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, ……” Then the righteous will answer him, 'LORD, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?’ “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, you did for Me.”
"Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence." -- Helen Keller
Our homeless have many needs, some are looking for a hand up to get their lives moving forward or need a place to rest their head or may not even want a roof or others may have needs we do not even know yet. The common need is a listening ear, communion with others, …..a community. MFISD has 121 students registered homeless. The US Census shows Marble Falls with 5% at poverty level, Granite Shoals at 18% and Kingsland at 17%. Which would give us ~ 2300 at or below poverty in our community and homeless of ~0.5% to 3.0% of our population, some temporary, some permanent and others transient. We need to address their needs in three general ways; a shelter for those who are passing through (phase 1), this would provide them housing for 1 to 3 months. Individuals that just need a hand up to get their lives back on track (phase 2), we would provide shelter for 3 months to 2 years, depending on their situation. Phase 2 would be to repurpose an existing building. Then we also have those that need a permanent residence (phase 3), a need for home security, community. Phase 3 would be a community of mini-homes.
